Vinicius Jose Paixao de Oliveira Júnior, commonly known as Vinicius Junior or Vini Jr., is a Brazilian professional footballer born on July 12, 2000, in Sao Gonçalo, Brazil. He plays as a forward (left-winger) for La Liga club Real Madrid and the Brazil national team. Known for his exceptional pace, technique, and dribbling ability, Vinicius is regarded as one of the best players in the world.
Real Madrid plans to sell Vinicius Junior
Real Madrid is reportedly planning to sell Vinicius Junior in January 2026 due to ongoing tensions between the Brazilian star and head coach Xabi Alonso, with concerns reaching even club president Florentino Perez. This decision stems partly from an incident where Vinicius was unhappy being substituted during El Clasico and general frustration over contract negotiations and his current attitude.
Despite the potential sale plan, Real Madrid still wants Vinicius to sign a contract extension (his existing deal runs until summer 2027) in order to avoid losing market value. His market value is estimated at around €150 million. Talks have been difficult, with stalled negotiations and disagreements over salary expectations, Vinicius reportedly seeks to match Kylian Mbappe’s much higher salary, which the club is reluctant to meet.
Additionally, there are reports that Real Madrid aims to keep Vinicius happy temporarily to ensure a financially favorable transfer rather than selling him at a lower price due to a contract nearing its end. There has also been interest from the Saudi Pro League, but Vinicius has shown a preference to stay at Real Madrid for now. However, his future remains uncertain, with the club possibly considering selling him to finance other major signings like Erling Haaland.
Real Madrid has set a very high release clause (around €1 billion) but could be open to a €150 million transfer next January if the right offer arrives.
