Jitesh Sharma Opens Up on Motivating Competition With Sanju Samson

Jitesh Sharma

Jitesh Sharma recently talked warmly about his relationship with Sanju Samson while they compete for a place in India’s T20 team. Even though Sharma was chosen over Samson for the last four T20 matches against South Africa, he sees Samson like an older brother.

Team Dynamics

Sharma said that the healthy competition between him and Samson is good for both of them and the team. He mentioned that playing against a strong player like Samson motivates him to play his best. This competition became more noticeable when Shubman Gill came back to the top order, which moved Samson to a lower position in the team lineup.

Replaceable Options

The Indian T20I team has made a surprising change. Sanju Samson, who can keep wickets and bat, will take Shubman Gill’s place for the next series against South Africa. The selectors want to strengthen the middle batting with Samson’s powerful hitting and quick work as a wicketkeeper.

Recent Context

In India’s T20 matches against South Africa in December 2025, Jitesh was chosen to finish the games instead of Samson. Sharma said both players want to put the team first and focus on playing for India, not just their own place in the team. Captain Suryakumar Yadav said players need to be flexible and ready to bat in different positions, not just as openers.
